LinkedIn is quickly maturing into a network that is not only profitable to the company, but is profitable to the members as well. Profitable? Members? Are you serious? Yes, LinkedIn continues to be one of the most valuable tools in your arsenal of social media weapons. When did you join and how active you have been determine your “profitability” on LinkedIn. Below is a quick list of how you can re-set your foundation on LinkedIn and jump start your growth.
- Edit your profile. Take a close look at the details making sure they are correct and fully represent you, whether it is your interests or your job descriptions or your profile picture. If people will not recognize you in your profile picture, update it!!!
- Status Update. When you log into LinkedIn you can make a Status Update. This is how you generate your own business news. Share work you have done, a recent project or even where you are travelling to. You can start a discussion or contribute to a discussion in a Group. Start finding your voice and using it!
- Promote someone else. We know you are great, talk about how great someone or something else is. This is easier for us to Like and will extend the reach of your network. It also shows us what you really care about, this is how we connect to you!
- Connect. The core of LinkedIn is 6 degrees of separation, stop being so frugal with your friendship and start inviting people to connect. Be proud of your accomplishments in this lifetime. You have done a lot and your profile shows that. When you connect to people it is the most basic extension of friendship, it is also the most dynamic business card you have ever given anyone.
- Recommendations. Follow the basic rules. Write one per week, Always be Honest, Never ask for a Recommendation.
